The Federal Government to ban the importation of fish and milk into the country soon.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Sabo Nanono at the official commissioning of the Agribusiness incubation centre (AIC) at Federal University Dutse, in Jigawa State.
Nanono explained that the Federal Government will look critically into the importation of any food into the country as we have most of what we import. He stated that Nigeria is a country where we should eat what we produce and produce what we eat.
The Minister said Nigeria has about 25m cows in the country by virtue of which we should be producing milk but the only problem the country has is how to get the milk.
He revealed that the Federal Government has commenced small scale milk processing centres to reduce dependence on the importation of milk into the country. That there are over seven of these centres and more will still be opened in the country. One of such was opened in Dawakin- Kudu last year and the centre alone is serving over 12 thousand Fulani cattle farmers in the area.
Nanono said that there are so many abandoned fish infrastructures in this country that are not been utilized. That the Federal Government is also working to revive them and also add new ones to them.
