Sanwo-Olu: This is what can Truly Boost Food Security…

 

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the ‘Eko Agro Mechanisation Programme’ of the state government will boost food security in the state.

A statement on Sunday said Sanwo-Olu said this during the grand finale of the 2021 World Food Day celebration in Lagos.

The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Hakeem Adeniji, noted that the mechanisation programme involved the procurement of 14 brand new tractors and ancillary equipment for farmers in the state.

He said, “The mechanisation programme is tagged, ‘Eko Agro Mechanisation Programme,’ with the procurement of 14 brand new tractors and ancillary equipment for farmers in the state. This equipment shall be utilised under the operational model known as Tractor-On-the-Go.”

Sanwo-Olu added that the programme would create jobs for agripreneurs.

“It is worth mentioning that this programme is expected to impact about 15,000 households, make significant contributions to the state food basket and create not less than 25,000 jobs,” he said.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms Abisola Olusanya who was represented by the Director, Agricultural Services, Mrs Abiola Ayoade, noted that the World Food Day was to sensitise people to the importance of food security and access to nutrition.
